Acoustic NanoMesh: a woven surface for speakers behind the screen.

An acoustically transparent screen lets the centre and front channels sit where the picture is, behind the fabric. Acoustic NanoMesh 4K is Big Shine's woven version: a fine, dense weave chosen to pass sound with little loss while holding a 4K image without moiré.

01 / The weave

Woven, not punched.

Most acoustically transparent screens are perforated: pin-holes punched through a vinyl surface, which limits how many openings the material can carry before the picture suffers. Acoustic NanoMesh is woven from an ultra-fine yarn, so the openings are the gaps in the weave itself: far smaller and far denser, around 2000 per square inch against a few hundred for a punched surface.

The weave pitch is chosen to sit below the pixel pitch of a 4K image at normal screen sizes. That is what keeps moiré, the banding that appears when a fine pattern in the picture lines up with a regular pattern in the fabric, from showing.

Gain 1.0 means the fabric reflects like a matte white reference; the screen gain guide explains how to read that against the seating plan. The fabric is front-projection only and is not washable; ask about care before cleaning it.

Fixed frame and tab-tensioned screens.

Acoustic NanoMesh 4K is supplied on Big Shine's fixed frame screens and the Grand tab-tension motorised screen. Both hold the fabric flat, which matters more for an acoustically transparent weave than for a solid surface. A fabric-only order for another frame is a custom item; ask before assuming it fits.

Speaker placement is part of the screen brief: the drivers should sit a short distance behind the fabric, on axis with the seats, with the frame depth and any wall cavity checked before the screen size is fixed.
