Projector placement is a geometry problem, not only a matter of finding an empty ceiling or shelf. Measure from the lens to the visible screen plane, then check the selected model's throw range, image offset, adjustment limits, mounting depth and service access.

Start with the lens-to-screen measurement

Throw ratio connects image width to the lens-to-screen distance. Use the visible image width and the exact projector or lens documentation. Keep the screen casing, frame, projector chassis and bracket depth separate from the optical measurement.

Keep the optical path close to centred

Aligning the lens with the screen centre is a useful starting point because it reduces correction and makes focus and brightness easier to check. An off-centre position may be possible on some models, but the allowed range and image trade-offs are model-specific.

Treat offset as a model value

Ceiling and shelf positions are constrained by the projector's vertical offset. Do not reuse a generic percentage across projectors; use the manual's drawing or installation table with the actual image height, screen position and mount orientation.

Prefer physical geometry before digital correction

  • Confirm lens-shift ranges where the model provides them.
  • Treat keystone and corner correction as limited tools, not substitutes for a level projector and suitable screen plane.
  • Check image geometry and focus with a test pattern after installation.

  • Confirm the exact projector model, lens and supported orientation.
  • Measure image width, screen plane, desired image edges and lens-to-screen distance.
  • Check offset or lens-shift documentation for the exact model.
  • Mark chassis depth, bracket projection, cable clearance, ventilation and service access.
  • Keep the projector level and close to the screen centre wherever the room allows.
  • Record the verified position and settings after commissioning.
